Natasha & Richard have been together 3 years; engaged since December 25, 2016. Richard (Ricky) and Natasha have known each other since they were 16 years old, the couple were really good friends in confirmation class and started dating in 2014.
The couples entry:
The year I met Ricky, my fiance, was not a very good year for me or my family. on May 8, 2014, we lost my father to a fatal shooting with the State Police. The matriarch of our family was taken from us and I was torn to pieces. I didn’t know where to turn to or how life would continue.
On July 4, 2014 I got a message from Ricky on Facebook asking if I would like to meet him for breakfast. I knew Ricky from confirmation class when we were in high school. I was feeling really down about the first holiday without my dad, so I agreed to breakfast. We talked for hours, and the poor thing was so tired because he had just got off a 12 hour graveyard shift at San Miguel 
Detention Center. (I didn’t know this, which I thought it kinda weird to ask me to breakfast instead of dinner but I went along with it). We connected on a level I never thought possible. We saw each other every day, until he had to go away for a few weeks for the National Guard Annual Training. At this point, I didn’t know how close we had gotten until he had left. It was so hard to be away from him during this time, and then was when I realized how much I loved him. He came back from training and made me his official girlfriend on August 6, 2014. Shortly after, I was introduced to his family, and to his son.
On December 25, 2015 was when Ricky asked me to marry him. Having the absence of my father, he formally asked the next person standing in my father’s place, my brother, for my hand in marriage. He invited all my family and his to Christmas dinner, got on one knee, and asked me to marry him. It was the best day of my life… Not a single eye was dry because everyone around us knows the love we have for one another and how much each of us mean to one another.
I didn’t know he and his son would be my saving grace… Before Ricky and Rico (his son), I was in a very bad place spiritually and mentally. I had no reason to live, and now they give me reason. He is a great father and someone I look forward to raising our children with. His mother, Carla, helped me get connected spiritually because I blamed God, and she helped me to accept what is and to get back in the church.
I literally wouldn’t be here today, planning my wedding, without the people God placed in my life. I am forever thankful.
This is why I feel that I should be picked as a finalist to receive the gift of a cake. My mother is now a single mother after being married 28 years to my father. They showed me what true love was, and I have found my forever love. This would be the perfect ending to our fairy tale wedding story, and a representation of the contribution my father can make from heaven above.
